As luxury mid-size family crossovers go, the 2012 Cadillac SRX aims to please. A new, more powerful V-6 engine, additional standard features, and prices starting at $36,060, including destination, are even more enticements.
The biggest improvement, compared to last year’s model, is the considerable bump in power thanks to the new 308-horsepower 3.6-liter V-6 engine – the sole engine now offered in the SRX.
Paired with driver-selectable ECO mode, which sets revised shift points in the six-speed automatic transmission, the engine delivers optimal fuel economy. The 3.6-liter engine is also E86 ethanol-capable.
Our sister publication, TheCarConnection, points out that this is 43 horsepower stronger than last year’s 3.0-liter V-6 engine, while still managing 17/24 mpg city/highway in front-wheel drive trim and 16/23 mpg with all-wheel drive. The five-passenger SRX has available all-wheel drive on all but the base model.
New 2012 SRX features include standard Bluetooth connectivity on all models; a heated steering wheel (standard in Luxury, Performance and Premium models); interior door lock switches added to the driver and passenger door panels and retained on the center console; an all-ebony interior option with contrasting stitching, new 20-inch alloy wheels (standard on Performance and Premium trims), and a Xenon Blue Metallic exterior paint option available in fall 2011.
Other SRX features include HID headlamps with Adaptive Forward Lighting, Bose 5.1 surround sound with navigation, a full-color LCD driver information center, and a rearview camera system. OnStar is standard in every 2012 SRX and features myCadillac and OnStar RemoteLink mobile apps and Stolen Vehicle Assistance.
Family-friendly SRX features returning for the 2012 model year include the UltraView sunroof that covers 70 percent of the crossover’s roof, a moveable cargo fence, under-floor storage space in the rear, and a power liftgate that is programmable to stop at different heights.
The 2012 SRX arrives in dealerships in August.
