Toyota has issued a recall for roughly 50 vehicles on June 1, 2011. Toyota included any 2011 Toyota Siennas with a manufacture date between March 7, 2011 and March 10, 2011 in this recall.
The recall documentation states that the dues to insufficient heat treatment, the front-right drive axle may break. If this axle breaks while driving, the driver will lose power to the wheels without a warning. This could surprise the driver and potentially cause a crash. It could also result in a rear-end collision should the axle break on a high-speed express way, causing the Sienna to decelerate quickly.
Toyota is notifying all potentially affected customers. Dealerships will inspect all potentially affected driveshaft and replace any substandard shaft free of charge. Concerned 2011 Sienna owners may reach Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 for additional details.
