Toyota has announced the recall of a small batch of 2011 model year Venza wagons and Sienna minivans, built between March 7 and March 10, 2011.

While only 50 vehicles in total are affected, the potential defect is significant and involves the front right drive shaft. A batch of drive shafts may not have received the proper heat treatment during the manufacturing process, leaving them subject to breakage under loading. Should breakage occur while the vehicle is being driven, a loss of power will result, increasing the risk of a crash.

Toyota will notify owners via mail when the recall begins later this month. Dealers will inspect the right front drive shaft and will replace any identified as coming from the suspect batch. Owners of 2011 Venza or Sienna models with questions or concerns can reach Toyota’s customer service hotline at (800) 331-4331. Owners can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236, or via the internet at http://www.safercar.gov.

  1. What a week for the Recall King. List features Prius, IQ, Venza, and Sienna. Problems from over a decade ago to defective drive shafts in 2011 models. Its about time Toyota addressed all those engine failures in MR2 Spyders: http://tinyurl.com/clm2uw
