Gotta love the snide little digs carmakers slip into some of their commercials. Nissan’s new ad campaign, “What If Everything Ran on Gas?” is the first in a series of humorous commercials for the 100 percent all-electric Nissan Leaf.
And it takes a snipe at a Chevy Volt getting a fill-up at the gas station near the end of the one-minute spot.
That’s in retaliation, no doubt, for one Chevrolet Volt commercial that calls the Nissan electric car a “Leaf blower.”
But the new Nissan ad does get your attention. The premise – What if everything ran on gas? – is unique. It’s also pretty disgusting to watch as exhaust fumes from gasoline-powered toasters, microwaves, computers, even the dentist’s drill, are everywhere.
Cut to the closing line: “Then, again, what if everything didn’t? The one-hundred-percent electric, zero-gas Nissan Leaf.”
Kind of gets you thinking, doesn’t it?
Where and when can you see the commercials? Nissan says the full 60-second spot will debut during the NBA Finals June 12. Four 15-second teaser spots start airing this week.
