2012 VW Beetle Roundup: All Your Bugs Are Belong To Us

Follow Nelson

The icon is re-reborn, and this time, it looks more the part: the 2012 Volkswagen Beetle is here, fresh from its unveiling ahead of the 2011 New York Auto Show.

VW calls it the sportiest, most efficient Beetle yet, with a pair of engine options pulling the weight for those appellations. The first, a 2.0-liter 200-horsepower turbo four-cylinder mates to a DSG gearbox and new electronic differential for better power and handling. The second, a punchy 140-horsepower TDI diesel, is good for 29/40 mpg city/highway.

  1. 2 days later and nobody has fixed the typo in the headline.

    Bad stuff?

  2. I like this new (and overdue)Beetle - much tauter and sportier than the previous, somewhat cartoonish old/new Beetle. The rear 3/4 view looks a little ungainly. What I would like to see is a new Baja production version of the showcar that was released some years ago.

  3. VW if you are reading this post, please please please please add the option of 4 Motion (i.e., all wheel drive) for both the TDI and 2.0 T versions of the 2012 Beetle. Other than this, VW could have added a bigger arm rest storage box and larger door pockets from the Jetta/Golf parts bin.
