Coulomb Technologies’ ChargePoint America program is ratcheting up its charging-station infrastructure, rolling out to six more U.S. cities. Consumers who own an electric vehicle or plug-in hybrid will soon be able to recharge them in Boston, Baltimore, Maryland, Tampa, Florida and three California cities: Santa Barbara, Ventura, and Monterey.
The expansion is all part of the company’s pledge to provide 4,600 public and home ChargePoint Networked Charging Stations by October 2011. This is in addition to the existing ChargePoint Network.
Since its announcement of the ChargePoint America program in June 2010, Coulomb Technologies has awarded thousands of home and public charging stations for electric vehicles throughout the original nine regions of the program: Southern Michigan; New York City; Orlando; Florida; Washington, D.C.; Sacramento; San Jose/San Francisco Bay Area; Los Angeles; Bellevue/Redmond, Washington; and Austin, Texas.
The company is also working closely with three automotive brands – Chevrolet, Smart USA, and Ford – to provide free home charging stations with the purchase of new EVs within the ChargePoint America regions.
The expansion allows new EV consumers access via SMS, email or smart phone (iPhone and Blackberry) applications to unique and easy-to-use services including:
- Real-time status and location of unoccupied charging stations
- Tracking and reporting greenhouse gas and gasoline savings
- Charging status notification
