Roughly 52,000 2010 Mazda 6s are being voluntarily recalled by
Mazda. Only Mazda 6s built on or before February 8, 2010 are affected by the recall.
Apparently spiders can get into the evaporative canister vent line and weave a web. This web has the potential to create a restriction in the line and cause excessive vacuum in the system when attempting to purge vapors.
This excessive vacuum, over time, can lead to the added stress to the fuel tank. This stress can result in a fairly serious fuel leak and a severe fire hazard.
Mazda will inspect any potentially affected canister lines. If a technician finds any webs, the dealer will clean the canister and tube. After inspecting and cleaning, Mazda will install a spring to prevent the spider from getting into the vent line. All of this is free of charge.
Customers can contact Mazda at 1-800-222-5500 if they feel their Mazda 6 is affected.
