The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has named the Honda Odyssey, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Traverse, and Buick Enclave as 2011 Top Safety Picks.
The vehicles received “good” crash test ratings in all 4 tests, including roof strength. The Odyssey withstood 5 times its weight, while the GM models manufactured after January 2011 are able to withstand 4 times their weight, especially impressive when the current standard limit of 1.5 times weight is considered.
The winners were equipped with ESC, now a necessity to earn top approval from the IIHS. A strong safety record bodes especially well for these family cars, often breathlessly researched by cautious soccer moms before a purchase decision is made.
