Who says spiders are harmless? If you own a 2009 or 2010 Mazda6 sedan you're probably not going to want to watch Arachnophobia any time soon.

According to Mazda, a certain type of spider (the yellow sac) may weave a web in the evaporative canister vent line (part of the emission control system), causing a restriction in the line and an excessively negative fuel tank pressure, which could lead to cracks and fuel-tank leakage—and potentially, fire.

The recall covers about 52,000 Mazda6 models from '09 and '10 with the four-cylinder engine; dealers will inspect the vehicles and install a spring that prevents the intrusion.

Dealers will get detailed information about the recall the week of March 14, 2011, and owners of affected vehicles will get letters via first-class mail beginning March 25.

    The Mazda 6 is such beautiful appearing car I wonder why I don't see many of them on the road. Far better looking than Camry/Accord/Altima and from what I understand equally reliable and well-made?

    Agree, based on price & features, I put the Mazda6 on my shopping list but when wife & I test drove she hated the car... much preferred Fusion or Camry. Mazda has cheap feeling interior and sits very low like race car, plus slightly harsh ride (all attributes that appeal to their young 20's male demographic but not to the mommy class who daddy has to live with. It just doesn't feel like a grownup car when driven back-to-back w/competitors. Even the new Hyundai Sonata feels nicer inside and costs less.

    I owned a 1985 Mazda 626 diesel, bought new, drove it 176,000 miles. The only reason I considered a Mazda was I wanted a diesel. I like diesels due to their superior fuel economy & heard Mazda was again bringing a diesel back to the USA in 2013. Hope they bring an affordable diesel back to the USA.
