Beleaguered Toyota can't seem to catch a break. The latest blow to the automaker comes in the form of a recall affecting some 245,000 Lexus GS and IS models sold here in the United States. Globally, the recall involves about 1.5 million vehicles.
The reason for the recall: issues involving oil leaks, faulty fuel pumps, and fuel lines.
U.S. Lexus models affected
Here's the breakdown of the mid-size and compact Lexus models involved in the latest recall:
- 2006-2007 Lexus GS 300 / GS 350
- 2006 through early 2009 Lexus IS 250
- 2006 through early 2008 Lexus IS 350
What to do
Toyota says owners of these vehicles will receive a recall notice once parts that may be required for the recall are obtained. In addition, the automaker will post the information on the Lexus website.
Customers with questions are urged to contact Lexus Customer Satisfaction at 1-800-25 LEXUS (1-800-255-3987) or at the Lexus Web site.
What will happen
Vehicles will be inspected at the dealership for any fuel leakages. If there are no leaks detected, the fuel pressure sensor will be tightened with the proper torque. Inspection and possible gasket replacement will be conducted at no charge to the vehicle owner.
