Any experience worth remembering isn’t just one-faceted, it’s got layers. It has relevance, it has color, and it has character. Think of any great meal you had, and it was the ambiance as well as the avocado aioli. Think of any great movie you saw, and it was the acting, directing and writing. And the same goes for most any great commercial. It can’t be just a moving image, it can’t be just a smooth voice over, it has to has pizazz. And music often serves to complete the picture. And we are not talking (Smiley) Miley Cyrus playing the bong.
At least that is what Advertising Age thinks, and they should know being an industry standard and such. You see they have come out with their Best Ad Songs of 2010. And it’s an interesting list as car ads feature in 5 of the top 10 ads of 2010. Let me preface this by saying, these are all background tunes that enhance the commercials they are in, and they serve to make you remember the whole experience by plugging into your ears as well as your eyes. Multi-channel marketing for your brain, so to speak.
Of those ads, which you can see below, my favorites are the VW, the bizarre Kia hamsters, the Subaru Love and the Ford Fiesta (which I commented on some time ago). The Honda CR-Z ad is just OK. They all combine catchy tunes with great storylines and memorable imagery. Especially the VW. Tracy Morgan and Stevie Wonder. Genius. Enjoy the ads and see if you think these ad tunes rock while the video rolls.
