Volvo has been one of
several luxury brands to offer free maintenance on its new cars. Now Volvo has added a new factory scheduled-maintenance package to its warranty coverage on Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) vehicles, too.
Volvo's new Protection Plus+ coverage for CPO vehicles already includes six years or 100,000 miles of zero-deductible replacement or repair for defective components, six year or 100,000 miles of roadside assistance, a Carfax buy-back guarantee, and transferability between owners.
So-called certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicles (or certified used vehicles) often end up being better deals than new cars as they come with a warranty that offers equivalent—if not better—coverage than you'd get with a new vehicle yet they've already taken some or most of that abrupt plunge in resale value over the first two to three years.
While CPO vehicles typically cost more than late-model used equivalents, some automakers really put them through the inspection paces, replacing partially worn brake pads, missing trim pieces, and bringing them to like-new condition.
During a time when new-car sales have flagged, the CPO market has been relatively strong—posting nine straight months this year with market-wide year-over-year CPO gains, according to Autodata figures cited by Auto Remarketing.
Volvo also boasts that it's been named the "best Premium Certified Pre-Owned program for 2011" from IntelliChoice, which thoroughly evaluates all the CPO programs each year.
