Ford has announced that it is developing an all-new performance package for the 2012 Mustang V6 model. With all the variants of the Mustang to date, you would think they have a bucket full of names; alas, Ford has decided to involve its fans instead of reaching into the name bucket.

Utilizing its vast following on Facebook, Ford has thrown a contest out to the 981,367 (as of this post) fans on the Mustang Facebook fan page. The premise of the contest is simple: submit what you think the name should be for the performance package. The winner will receive a one-year lease of a 2012 Mustang V6, which will feature the performance package.

The performance package will receive some bits and pieces from the Mustang GT's parts bin, including suspension and braking upgrades along with body stiffening. A new 3.31 rear axle ratio is being thrown in along with different front and rear stabilizer bars. The shocks are off a Mustang GT while the lower rear control arm is from the Shelby GT500. The 19 inch wheels will be unique as well.

Some of the entries for the performance package name are either plain jokes or are hilarious enough to be a joke. Some examples that have been submitted:

  • Sleek Beast
  • The Giddy-Up!
  • Colt Plus
  • Stud Package
  • Sixxer

The list goes on. Some were decent, though most were eye-gougingly bad.

The judges will pick the top five finalists based on consumer interest and creativity, along with how the entry fits with the 2012 Mustang V6. The five finalists will be posted to the Mustang Facebook fan page and fans will vote. The entry with the most votes will be choosen as the new perforamnce package name.

The contest ends at 11:59 p.m. ET on December 14.
