Here at Family Car Guide, we couldn’t resist commenting on the cross-country trek Dodge begins next week to promote the 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392 and 2011 Dodge Charger R/T. According to multiple sources, this is no big-spender campaign, just two Dodge reps, Heather Heughens and Scott Vandekerckhove, behind the wheel visiting a number of Dodge dealerships, Mopar clubs, car shows, tuner shops and more on the 8,000-mile journey.
What a way to rev up enthusiasm for these two HEMI-powered muscle cars – which, to some aficionados, fit perfectly well into the family vehicle lineup. After all, it may be a tight fit in the rear seat, but who’s complaining? As any red-blooded enthusiast knows, there’s still plenty of room left in America for flat-out performance. Mustang and Camaro owners, watch out.

As for the cars, the re-engineered 2011 Dodge Charger R/T has all-new sheet metal, with styling reminiscent of Chargers from the late 1960s. The 2011 Dodge Challenger SRT8 392, meanwhile, boasts a 392-cubic inch (6.4-liter) HEMI engine that pounds out 470 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque. When was the last time this engine size has been offered in a production car? (Hint: Think back to 1958).

But, back to the specifics of the Challenger/Charger tour, the trek starts out departing the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, Michigan on November 14. Counting Michigan, the journey covers 13 states and ends December 20 at SMS Supercars in Corona, California. Fans (and their families) can check out all the stops on Red Letter Dodge, the brand’s official blog, or follow them on Facebook and Twitter.
Nice way to bring a little ChallengerCharger excitement families can enjoy between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Right on, Dodge.
