Performance aficionados of all types – along with their families -- flock to the Specialty Equipment Market Association – or SEMA – held each November in Las Vegas. This year, the SEMA show, which runs from Nov. 2 – 5, features a stable of nine customized 2011 Mustangs in the Ford exhibit.
What pony car enthusiast could resist? The Mustang, the only muscle car continuously in production since its 1964 debut, is better than ever, say Ford officials touting the show. Not only did the automaker bring back the 5.0-liter V-8 Mustang GT for 2011, they’ve also got the all-aluminum 3.7-liter engine in a Mustang V-6 that delivers 305 horsepower and achieves an EPA-estimated 31 mpg highway. What’s new for Mustang also includes a reveal of the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 and the track-ready Laguna Seca version.
Since the SEMA show is all about customization and how consumers can make their cars special, Ford will display the following different customized versions of the 2011 model.
Ford Mustang GT by Ford Vehicle Personalization
Using Ford accessories, Ford Vehicle Personalization created art from a Mustang GT. The car’s exterior is a custom white tri-coat color that Sherwin Williams developed. The color has coral undertones, a theme carried out on the car’s interior where coral accents show up on the steering wheel, gauge cluster, shifter knob and air vents. Showcasing what consumers can do with their own Mustangs, Ford Custom Assessories include a rear pedestal spoiler, rear quarter window louvers, side scoops and billet grille. These are all covered in a concept liquid silver finish. The custom Mustang GT rides on 18-inch machined liquid silver wheels.
Ford Mustang by Team Baurtwell
Funkmaster Flex and Team Baurtwell designed this custom Mustang that includes smoked taillights, 3dCarbon body kit, and NC Forged three-piece billet wheels. Chassis upgrades include Steeda lowering kit, sway bars and springs, while Baer brakes add to the Mustang’s stopping power.
Ford Mustang by MRT
The intent to deliver a tough street warrior theme is well carried out in MRT’s custom Mustang. Starting with a Mustang GT as base, MRT included carbon effects inside and throughout the engine compartment, custom color scheme, and several modifications for performance. These include chassis upgrade, performance handling package, upgraded Baer brakes and an MRT stainless steel exhaust.
Ford Mustang by Creations ‘n Chrome
The pink chrome Mustang convertible is hard to miss – as is the message. Creations ‘n Chrome teamed up with the American Cancer Society to help raise awareness for breast cancer. Highlights include a Vortech supercharger, HRE performance wheels, Wilwood brakes and 3dCarbon styling kit.
Ford Mustang by Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords
Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords boosted the 5.0-liter Mustang with a Ford Racing Performance Parts supercharger kit and exhaust system from Kooks Custom headers. There’s also a custom paint job, Rousch fascia and Cervini’s Auto Designs hood. Add to that suspension, seats and brakes upgraded with American Muscle Parts and this custom ‘Stang is complete.
Ford Mustang by Mobsteel
Mobsteel’s customized V-6 Mustang includes an STS Turbo patented remote mount turbo system, Air Runner suspension and Magnaflow cat-back exhaust. Rounding out Mobsteel’s extensive modifications are 15-inch Baer brakes, Savini forged wheels and Pirelli tires.
