We all know how dangerous--and illegal--texting while driving can be. We also know that if we don't respond to that message within the next five minutes, the world will end. OK, so it won't end, but it's important. That's where Vlingo InCar comes in.
The Vlingo InCar beta app for Android allows users to send and receive text messages without taking their hands off the wheel. Using voice operation, Vlingo InCar uses Bluetooth to take commands, with a unique "wake up word" activating the software. Vlingo InCar users can also make calls and get directions through the software's voice controls.
So far only Sprint users are supported for the beta test, though it looks like Vlingo is working to add more carriers to the list. Sprint phones must be running Android 2.1 or higher to use Vlingo InCar. The software is free to download in the Android Market.
Vlingo also says "other platforms" will be included in a future release, so all you iPhone users should get a pleasant surprise in the near future.
