Audi was not first to the social game. In fact they were a little behind the curve when compared to Ford and General Motors. Lately they have been making up for lost time. With the TT-RS Facebook petition and now Kevin Rose.

Earlier today Kevin Rose (founder of Digg) tweeted out "Holy shit, @audiusa just gave me this to drive for a week...." The tweet was attached to a picture of a white Audi R8 V10. Yes, Audi apparently just gave Kevin Rose a R8 V10 for the week. Was it a smart move? In one word, yes!

Kevin Rose is a big name in the social media industry. Heck he's a big name in the business industry at this point. Giving someone that is so socially networked and followed a car like this is nothing but good PR/marketing. I am sure we will see tweets through out the week talking about the car and his experiences.

What did this little PR/marketing stunt really cost Audi? A R8 V10 for a week...that's it! My guess is that this will pay off huge for them. Getting the word out about the R8 V10 is no easy feat. In a world mixed with Lamborghini's and Ferrari's Audi is not exactly known as a super car player outside of the direct automotive enthusiasts crowd. But to the wealthy technology savvy crowd, Kevin Rose can get the word out.

  1. Thanks for the article - one correction though - Kevin founded Digg, Revision3, Pounce, and FollowMe, but not Mashable. Mashable goes to the straight-faced Pete Cashmore.

    Bad stuff?

  2. Nice for Kevin, the Mashable thing was removed from the article. I don't if you guys now, but Kevin Rose commented on it on Digg: "Whoa, i started Mashable, rad."
Maybe if car companies see how viral this news got, he'll get more cars from other car makers? How about a nice Lambo next?

  3. You guys do realize Lamborghini is owned by Audi right? and the V10 version of the R8 is actually using the same engine as the V10 Gallardo albeit detuned...

  5. Not only do they own Lambo but they own Bugatti and developed the Veyron. To anybody that follows cars even casually definitely thinks of Audi as a super car player.
