When I read that Honda had produced its ten millionth car at its Marysville, Ohio plant, I really had to stop and think what an accomplishment this was, not just from a manufacturing perspective, but also from an advertising point of view. Ten million cars is a lot of cars, even if it did start in 1982. And I am not counting their other plants, and the manufacturing and engine plants in Canada that have produced tens of thousands of vehicles as well. Sure, ten million is just a number, but it's a big number and it is something to be touted.
But Honda touts relatively quietly compared to some other manufacturers in my opinion. Honda should say out loud: "We create, build and drive cars all over the planet, making life better." They were employing Americans and Canadians when the other manufacturers weren't, and some--notably, Volkswagen, GM and Ford--were closing plants and leaving town. Honda was the first of the major Japanese automakers to open a plant in North America and to show that they are there for the long haul.
Honda has quietly gone about its way too in creating fantastic ads over the years, ads that really stood out, like the cog, which you can check out below. But they have gone about advertising themselves in a totally different way from other car makers. Just look at their global website and go to this web address: http://world.honda.com/ThePowerofDreams/cap/video-110/ --granted it's from 2006, but it is just proof of Honda's love of building cars, doing things differently and being inspired and inspiring at all the things they do. Be it, cars, lawn mowers, motorcycles, robots, or racing. I love this "Cap" movie in particular, as it has a Little Prince quality to it. Imagination, fun and creativity, all rolled into a short animated movie. Just lovely. Check out all their ads there as well as the games you can play. Have fun with Honda.
