Porsche 911

How do you describe a 911's styling, apart from "singular?" With more than 40 years behind it, the 911 doesn't answer too many requests to change with the times. It rolls on, like a Mustang, confident in merely refining its classic shape, year after year. Sure, the Turbo is a little wider and a little lower (and Turbo-look packages are sure to spread to other models after this year), but all 911s are squat little teardrops, with front fenders that frame a narrow, single-minded view of the road ahead. In all, the 911 gets a score of 9, but for its timeless appeal, it's perfection.

  1. I get all of them except for the MINI. Not that it's ugly, but it seems to be more like an 8 to me. Cute, but not hot.

  2. Most of your choices I agree with but ... the Mini? Can't possibly compare to the original 1959 model, and the current one looks blocky & bloated next to the original retro-Mini from 2000.
And, the Viper? Please. Fratboy fantasy on steroids. Ptui.
Bo Derek holds up pretty well, though. :)

  3. Looks like the editors have very expensive taste but I can't argue with the choices!

  4. That the R8 is on the same list as the ugly mini and porches is madness, madness I tell you!

  5. Obviously the author's never seen my vintage Cobra, the one like they drove in Charlie's Angels. Come to think of it Farrah always did fare better than Bo.

  6. this is great stuff. just don't understand why the datsun B210 hatchback didn't make it :-)

  7. The only 2 I would have to agree on here would be the Audi R8 and Jaguar XK. This is a list of cars that are perfect??? But then again I find the styling of most modern cars, even the good ones, to be lacking compared to past greats.

  8. Yeah, the mini looks a little out of line here, but the rest are good choices.
