2010 Ford Flex, Hyundai Tucson are IIHS Top Safety Picks

The latest crash-test ratings are in from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and the insurance industry-funded research group has added a range of vehicles from Ford, Volkswagen, and Hyundai to its Top Safety Pick List.

With these new results, we're updating our 2010 reviews for each of the vehicles, to award them TheCarConnection's own score of "10" for safety.
From Ford, the best crash rating gets applied to the following vehicles:

So far, Ford has scored 11 "Top Safety Pick" awards from the IIHS, which it says is a higher number than any other automaker.

Other winners on the list include the 2010 Hyundai Tucson; the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen, and the 2010 Audi Q5 and A4.

This year, the IIHS has changed its safety ratings to include roof-crush standards. The result: many vehicles that qualified as Top Safety Picks in the past, have lost the designation for the 2010 model year.
