Recent reports have the Dodge Dakota mid-sized pickup heading toward its doom, but could there be a brighter future for Dodge’s compact truck offering?

Our colleagues at Leftlane News recently reported on leaked details on Chrysler’s 2011 production schedule. The 2011 Ram chassis cab, whose anticipated updates were covered HERE in a recent post, is apparently slated for a production start of April 5, 2010.

More interestingly, however, was Leftlane’s report that the 2011 Dodge Dakota will begin production in late July of this year. The identified production date didn’t really spark my interest as much as the talk of the possibility that this vehicle could be an all-new unibody version of the Dakota in the spirit of the Honda Ridgeline.

Leftlane noted that earlier reports of a unibody Dakota replacement put the vehicle’s introduction in 2011, but suggested that a 2010 debut might not be out of the question. So will the Dakota see new life? We’ll do our best to keep you informed on the Dakota’s prospects for survival.

  1. For me it should be a rebirth. Dakota has good performance and the manufacturers shouldn't risk it. There are still lots of people that would want to have one. I own oen and I just had it modified. Still there are available and reliable dodge dakota parts and are working perfectly.
