Just as Washington is winding up for another round of Congressional hearings Tuesday, news of yet another Toyota mechanical issue has spread. In affected models equipped with V-6 engines, an engine oil hose might degrade to the point of leaking, potentially causing engine failure.

According to Reuters, citing a document sent out to U.S. dealers, the repair will take about an hour and will be done at no charge until March 31, 2013. Overall, 933,800 vehicles will be covered.

Several of these models are also already covered by Toyota's major accelerator-related recalls for pedal entrapment or stick accelerator mechanisms.

A message sent to Toyota, to confirm details of the recall and the repair program, was not yet returned at the time of writing.

UPDATE: Toyota has posted a statement on the service campaign, clarifying that it is Phase 3 of a multi-tier service campaign--this time adding the 2009 Toyota Avalon and RAV4 models. "This is not a safety recall and submitting a Defect Information Report to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is not required," Toyota says, adding that they are conducting the service "in the interest of customer satisfaction."

This is not a recall, but the service issue might seem familiar. Last decade, the automaker had another ongoing issue with engine sludge in its V-6 engines, affecting some 1997-2002 Lexus and Toyota models. Although Toyota didn't recall the vehicles then, it did set up a special service effort for them.

The so-called "limited service campaign" will cover these models:

2007-2010 Toyota Camry
2005-2009 Toyota Avalon
2006-2009 Toyota RAV4
2007-2008 Lexus ES 350
2007-2009 Lexus RX 350

    Bad stuff?

  2. It sure looks like that the definition of "quality" needs to be defined. I appears that Toyota does not have it! The auto manufacture with the so called highest quality standards? has the highest number of vehicles and conditions identified as defects and recalls. The question to ask has there been a cover up by Toyota.

  3. If this were Chrysler products, the automotive press would be calling for their head. I guess Toyotas' failures put egg on the face of the Sebring detractors, since the "punching bag" Sebring has no recalls I know of for 2010. I guess the Sebring should be rated a "best buy" in Consumers Report based on this Toyota fiasco, but it's an American car, it must be bad. The press has no credibility now. Buy a Sebring folks!

  4. I had the same problem with my 07 v6 XLE camry I saw a big spot of oil in the drive way I thought that might be my other 03 camry but it was not I went for oil change to the dealer and they told me its leaking and the repair will take an hour thank God it was covered under warranty it was on recall for this problem dealer gave me rental car for 1 day to take care of all 3 recalls which are (1) Oil leak related to VVTI (2) Gas paddle recall to put reinforced metal plates (3) Brake over ride in case if the car starts running away and you hit the brake it will over ride the acceleration. My car has 45000 miles so I guess it’s covered by the extended warranty. So guys n gals be careful and get checked your Toyotas and be safe.
