Classic pickup trucks have a special place in the car hobby. The non-profit organization HeroBox, organized for the sole purpose of providing support to United States armed forces personnel, is using a sweet classic truck restoration project involving a 1959 ford pickup to draw attention to its efforts to support our troops.
HeroBox is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to provide physical and moral support to deployed U.S. armed service members while they are away from home. A HeroBox is a care package that is customized to each receiving service member's needs and wants.
As a promotional effort, HeroBox initiated what the organization is calling Project 59, the restoration of a 1959 Ford F100 step-side pickup affectionately called "The Major." HeroBox selected the truck's name as a tribute to Major John Burrescia, the man who spearheaded Project 59 and who HeroBox considers an ambassador for the organization.
HeroBox describes Project 59 as a collaboration among LMC Truck, CAM Automotive, HeroBox, and the organization's sponsors. And while the soon-to-be smokin' hot 1959 Ford pickup will definitely draw a lot of attention to itself, the project is intended as an effort to honor members of the U.S. armed forces. HeroBox says that the organization expects to show Project 59 at a number of car and truck shows starting this fall.
