The survey was conducted earlier this year by telephone and included 380 Volvo owners and 485 Infiniti owners with vehicles equipped with these systems.
Although it will likely be many years before there's any solid data about the difference these systems are making in injury and fatality rates, IIHS spokesman Russ Rader confirmed to TheCarConnection.com that within the next year we can expect to see some preliminary information about how these systems affect insurance claims. According to Rader, for now it's a matter of looking at "which are working, and which are working better than others."

In the meantime, if you're thinking about a vehicle with one of these systems, consider that people do think that these devices are making a difference in their safety, but we also need to be wary about drivers letting their defenses down and letting the systems do the work.
