General Motors first revealed the production version of the 2011 Chevrolet Volt in September of 2008 and ever since the original unveiling the car has appeared in the same silver exterior with an emerald hue. This will be the color of the first batch of production Volts but GM still needs a new and exciting name for it.
Late last month GM launched an online contest that asked for color name suggestions, with three finalists to be flown to Los Angeles this December to compete for a final chance to be among the first to test-drive a pre-production Volt.
Out of 13,000 entries, those three finalists have now been picked, with GM selecting “EV-ergreen” offered by Devin McQuarrie, 30, of San Jose, CA; “Viridian Joule” submitted by Dave Thomas, 40, of Sanford, FL; and “environMINT” entered by Matthew Valbuena, 30, of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. GM chose the three finalists based equally on originality, creativity and the ability to capture the innovation and spirit of the Volt.
Consumers will now determine the winner by voting for their favorite name from the three finalists at www.chevroletvoltage.com. The finalists and a guest each will travel to Los Angeles where the winner will be announced by GM on December 1.
The silver exterior with an emerald hue will be available exclusively on the Volt. Other color options will include Black, Silver Ice Metallic, Cyber Gray Metallic, Crystal Red Metallic and a premium White Diamond Tri-Coat. Production for the Volt is expected to start in late 2010.
