We're all about empowerment here at TheCarConnection. We give you a voice in the car world by asking you to write for High Gear Media Web sites--and we're also here to answer the questions that come up while you're researching, shopping and driving your new car.

Which brings us to the Dodge Journey, which arrived in the 2009 model year just as Chrysler's tumultuous decade was coming to a close. Back in early 2008, we drove it and liked its flexible interior, good visibility and its nifty take on SUV and crossover styling--but lodged major gripes with its interior quality and powertrain smoothness in our Dodge Journey review.

The Journey's been a reasonably strong seller, and owners have been peppering us with questions. Among those folks: Alan Roodt, TheCarConnection's biggest fan on the island of Hawaii. Roodt writes:

Aloha! I purchased a 2009 Journey SE. No remote came with it. Is there an aftermarket or other means of getting a remote to work with unlocking this vehicle without having to use a key in the driver's door? Note there is no passenger door key slot either for this non-keyless-remote vehicle.

We contacted Chrysler's PR group, which told us that for the 2009 model year, the keyless-entry fob wasn't offered. The remote locking feature does comes standard across the board on all 2010 Journey crossovers, regardless of model, we'd add.

"There is something he can consider," Chrysler told us. "Mopar has a remote start accessory and it comes with lock/unlock." The remote-starting system is available at the Mopar Web site for $235.

So aloha back, Alan--and may every Journey be empowered.

Each week at TheCarConnection, we get dozens of emails from readers looking for answers to their car questions. "Is this normal?" "Did I pay too much?" "What's the best car for me?" While we can answer some of those through our full reviews, TrueCar pricing, and comparisons, we're also looking for questions directly from you. If you need to know something about your current car or your next new vehicle, email us here at feedback (at) thecarconnection [dot] com. If we're able to help, you'll see your question posted here.

  3. Better get soime clarification... the instructions for that remote start kit indicate the Journey needs to have come factory-equipped with a keyless remote system. The PR guys, I guess, aren't mechanics or engineers. According to the Dodge specs. the '09 Journey SE came factory-equipped with the Sentry-Key theft-deterrent system - and that must've included a remote lock/unlock feature. Did this guy just not get the remotes from the selling dealer, for some reason?
