It's that time of year again: time to decide the North American Car and Truck of the Year (NACOTY). This time around, our own Executive Editor Marty Padgett is one of the jurors, and we're bringing you the insider's perspective on the process, as well as looking to hear what you have to say on which car and truck should be picked as the year's best.

Starting with a long nominee list of 27 cars and 17 trucks, the NACOTY panel carefully selected just 15 cars and 10 trucks that will be up for the final award.

The 2010 North American Car of the Year Short List:

The 2010 North American Truck of the Year Short List:

Aside from a few cars that aren't available for retail sale yet, or haven't been for very long--the Acura ZDX, Suzuki Kizashi and Porsche Panamera among them--many of these vehicles has a track record of impressing buyers and journalists alike with their capabilities, value and features. It will no doubt be a tough decision for the empaneled jurors to decide which will come out on top.

    My guesses: Close between Ford Fusion Hybrid, Kia Soul, and Toyota Prius for COTY. Chevrolet Equinox for TOTY.

    A truck list with NO trucks? I can see the Ford Transit Connect on the truck list but the rest?? In the old days most of the CARS on the truck list were called station wagons.

    Kia bodies have gotten a lot better, now if their reliability would catch up it would be great!

    How can you vote on a truck of the year when all I see are glorified mini vans. Come on, enough about gas mileage and lets talk trucks.I will take my 2010 F150 any day.
