Hyundai Accent SE 3 Door
Mileage: 27 city/35 highway
Engine: 110 horsepower/106 lb. feet of torque
In response to the horrific state of the new car market earlier this year Hyundai decided to start offering a stripped out version of its economy hatchback the Accent. What started out as a perfectly passable commuting device (available in some colors like yellow, aqua green and purple more suited to an Easter egg) then became a four wheeled econo-torture box.
This vehicle seems to exist only to prove that sometimes buying used is a far better idea. This base Accent has no air conditioning, no radio (but still has 4 speakers?) and had a great deal of the sound deadening material removed. Crank windows are, of course, mandatory as is a five speed manual transmission.
Although used Hyundai models see their 10 year/100,000 mile warranty dropped to 5 years/60,000 miles for the second owner this fact should not sway individuals looking at this basic Accent to look at a used Hyundai or Kia. There are boatloads of used Hyundai and Kia models out there that can meet that price range and will be far more rewarding ownership propositions. While Kia and Hyundai models are highly reliable the fact that used models have smaller warranties has a severe impact on their resale value. This is good news for used shoppers.
