More owners of the Infiniti G37 would recommend it to a friend than owners of any other model.
That’s according to data released earlier this month from the marketing research and consulting firm AutoPacific. For the first time this year, as part of its annual New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey, the firm asked “Would you recommend your new vehicle to a friend or relative?”
Overall, 95 percent of G37 owners said they’d recommend it to a friend or relative. The editors at TheCarConnection.com really like the Infiniti G37 as well; we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to our driving-enthusiast friends who want a luxury sedan or coupe and place the strongest emphasis on performance and features. In those categories of our Meta Review on the G37 sedan, we give it a 9 in Performance and Features, with a low of 7 in Comfort and Quality—largely due to road noise. The G37 coupe gets a higher overall rating of 8.6 because we rate its styling, and its comfort relative to other coupes, slightly higher.
How does the advice of a friend or relative rank among influences? According to AutoPacific’s 2008 data, nearly 20 percent of shoppers agree that this type of advice strongly influenced their purchase; so word of mouth means a lot. To give you an idea of how that ranks with other factors, price influenced about 41 percent, salespeople played a strong role for nearly 37 percent, and just seeing the vehicle on the road influenced more than 31 percent. And as we pat our own backs here, the Internet was several times more influential than newspapers or magazines (articles or ads).
Porsche was the winner among brands, with all of its lineup scoring well and a stellar 91 percent of owners, overall, saying that they would recommend their vehicle to a friend. The Porsche 911 ranked at the top among sports car models as most recommended, just as it topped the sports-car ranks in AutoPacific’s 2009 Vehicle Satisfaction Awards.
Among SUVs, the most recommended vehicles are the GMC Yukon XL and the Honda CR-V, both recommended by 93 percent of owners.
The New Vehicle Satisfaction Survey includes about 25,000 new-car owners in their first few months of ownership.
