While Maserati offers up test drives of the sensuous new Granturismo S to a host of playas--not including us!--we're content to bring you this pic of the new Granturismo Spyder that's working its way through rigorous testing.
The convertible is due in March of next year, which makes it a 2011 model by our count. Its convertible lid is cloaked here in black plastic, but the droptop version is for real--only, no one's sure yet if it's a hardtop convertible like the Ferrari California, or a fabric-roofed spyder in the league of the Jaguar XKR. These photos seem to suggest the latter, and given Maserati's all about the look, the more compact-folding ragtop seems more likely to preserve the Granturismo's stunning shape.
The Spyder should share the coupe's 434-horsepower V-8 engine and probably is due for a new automatic transmission, too. Pricing could start around $130,000, right up there with the Aston Martin V8 Vantage.
We'll keep you posted on the Spyder from this fall's Frankfurt auto show. For complete photos of this vehicle, head over to our pals at MotorAuthority.
