It's official - Acura's new "four-door sport coupe," which will debut at the New York Auto Show (4/8 at 11:00 a.m.), will be called the ZDX. Previously, we'd reported on Web speculation that the prototype vehicle would be named MSX, but Acura's release today formalizes its name.

Acura VP for sales Jeff Conrad claims that the ZDX prototype "showcases a new level of luxury, style and refinement for Acura and speaks volumes towards our commitment to advancing the brand." Acura claims the ZDX will bring a new level of prestige to their lineup once it arrives in dealerships this fall, offering a bevy of performance, technology, and safety features.

We're a little lukewarm on the four-door coupe craze, or at least the trend of calling vehicles with four doors "coupes." And we can only hope that Acura has abandoned its gaping, beak-like grille that makes its TL (and to a lesser degree, TSX) sedan look so awkward. That said, the profile looks quite elegant and interesting. We look forward to bringing you official photos and specs next week from New York.
