The IIHS did a bit of testing on the small sport utilities recently to look into roof strength in a rollover and the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan was found to have the strongest roof of all the sport utilities tested. It was so strong in fact that in the video they put together the Tiguan is the only one that still had all of its glass intact after the 15,000 lb weight was pressed against the roof rail above the driver's head. Others crushed to the point that you would wonder if anyone was able to survive the wreck and it was actually a bit scary to think about driving one of those tin boxes.
Having a strong roof is important in any vehicle that may experience a rollover and Volkswagen shows that they are serious about building cars with vault-like safety. Our brief review of the 2009 Volkswagen Tiguan is available here and below you will find the IIHS video clip with the Tiguan's industrial strength roof.
