Acura has been releasing a slow stream of teaser images - with no details, save for the name "ZDX" - of a vehicle that is to be shown at the New York Auto Show and appears to be a low-slung crossover along the lines of BMW's SAC (Sports Activity Coupe), the X6. The latest image (we over-exposed it for you to show greater detail) reveals an unconventional hatch treatment that thrusts a section of the body into a cutout in the rear hatch. It's quite fetching at first glance; a bit Volvo C30-like from this limited view.

It seems Acura is quickly abandoning its excessively angular styling theme as used on the TL and pursuing a more flowing, organic, and softer direction. Whether or not this pricey, boutique crossover will sell in significant numbers remains to be seen. Regardless, let's hope this new design ethos quickly spreads to the rest of the line. We've had about enough of the new Acura maw. Notice, though, they haven't released pics of this crossover's grille yet.

Earlier teaser shots show a sloping rear profile even more dramatic than the X6; from the hazy images, the truncated rear seems to meld a bit of Porsche Panamera with touches of 2010 Toyota Prius in an aerodynamic Kammback profile.

Motor Authority reports the ZDX will be based on the MDX SUV platform, go on sale in 2011, sport an uprated version of Acura's 300 hp 3.7-liter V-6, and be positioned above the MDX with an estimated MSRP between $42,00 and $49,000.
