During a press conference the New York Auto Show on April 8, Scion will unveil a "micro-subcompact" car they say is a reflection of its youthful image and signals the brand's shift toward "the growing urbanization trend." Three cheers, Scion - we think the xB, which grew a massive 800 lb. heavier in its second generation, was the wrong way to go.

Might this new vehicle be a version of Toyota's Smart fortwo-trumping iQ microcar, or at least share its chassis or some components? Toyota hasn't released details, and we're looking forward to learning more at the Jacob Javits Center in a few weeks.

In New York, Scion will also be displaying its xB, successful tC sports coupe, xD subcompact, and five modified concepts that debuted at SEMA last fall.

Stay tuned for more details on the new tiny, fuel-sipping Scion as we get them.

  1. "Or could it be more mundane.."

Or could it simply be a rebadged Toyota Echo/Yaris.....oh the cynicism

    Bad stuff?

  2. "xD is already a rebadged Yaris"

The xD is already a rebadged Yaris (the xB is a rebadged Corolla wagon). So the new micro-subcompact has to be an iQ clone (Yaris is subcompact, not "micro" at all.
