Much as GM can't seem to halt the massive sales and profit nosedive being handed to it by the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression, 277,000 GM vehicles, despite being placed in "park," could just keep on rolling. GM is recalling the vehicles, which include the Chevrolet Cobalt, HHR, Malibu, and Traverse, the GMC Acadia, the Pontiac G5 and G6, and the Saturn Aura and Outlook.
The cause of the problem is a loose clip on the transmission cable; while the shifter indicates park, the actual transmission could be in another position. The warning and explanation were posted today on NHTSA's Web site.

GM dealers will perform an inspection and replace the shift cable if the clip is not properly engaged.
Bloodied Hummer also gets a rather alarming recall; a fuel support strap on approximately 1,700 2009 H3T pickups could snap, leading to the tank "separating" from the truck. Hummer dealers will replace the support straps of all affected vehicles.
