Proving once and for all that the Volkswagen New Beetle is NOT a vehicle for manly men (or perhaps strictly for the closets of their secret mountain cabins), Volkswagen announces a proud, pink, rhinestone-bedazzled Malibu Barbie New Beetle convertible in honor of the dysmorphic doll's 50th. Said VW: “Like the New Beetle, Barbie has made a remarkable impact on pop culture history, and still remains a cultural icon today.” They rolled the thing out at Barbie doll’s Malibu Dream House exclusive birthday celebration.

Check these details: pink quilted leather lined door pockets and arm rests. A motorized vanity in the trunk. "Plenty of rhinestone accents." Vanity mirrors galore. Even a pink painted dipstick matching Barbie's favorite lipstick. Snaps for vee-dub; sounds like a no-brainer for Legally Blonde 3.

While the economy goes down in flames and dealers set fire to their cars, the folks at Volkswagen and Mattel seem delightfully unaware of the maelstrom around them. Or perhaps they're just dealing through distraction, amusing themselves by mixing "over five shades of paint to create the perfect pink color."

The original VW Beetle was about laughing with, but the New Beetle has now moved into the realm of being laughed at. Herbie would be ashamed.

  1. "Next Up"

This will certainly garner some sales. However, I believe that VW should produce clean diesel TDI and 2.0 Turbo gas versions of the Beetle with 4 motion (i.e., all wheel drive) to get even more sales.

  3. "Hmm"

Is no one going to ask what the hell Heidi Klum is doing, hawking this thing?

  4. "LMAO"

This is just plain ugly. Well no one ever said that Barbie had taste. Did anyone also see the Fiat 500 Barbie edition for the 50th Anniversary, just as ugly as this....and just as pink
