A few news nuggets to get you through the mid-week slump:

  • Rocket man still zoom-zooming: You knew that Michael Phelps landed a $1 million contract to shill Madzas in China, right? You also know that Phelpsie was shutterbugged huffing a righteous hit off a bong. Apparently, both are still accurate. [Edmunds]
  • Halo, now in 3D: Dig Halo? Waiting for the movie with bated breath (whatever that is)? Bad news: we've got no clips for you. Good news: we've seen pics of a working model of the game's Warthog vehicle, which has been built by Peter Jackson's workshop in New Zealand. And since Jackson's on board as an exec proucer, we're pretty sure you'll see this model again. Sweet. [WorldCarFans]
  • Fast, shiny things: Had enough concept cars? Who could? Well, there's another to drool over (or ridicule): Phillip Dean's sleek Jaguar C-XC concept. The glass hood/roof/rear window doesn't leave much room for privacy--but then, owners of cars like that probably wouldn't mind being seen behind the wheel. [AutoMotto]
  • Saying no to scrap: At least one group is opposed to the Cash for Clunkers portion of Obama's stimulus package. Who, you ask? Why, the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association. You know, the folks who make cash selling parts for your clunker. [PRNewswire]
  • General visits The General: Former Secretary of State Colin Powell visited the Washington, D.C. auto show yesterday. Here's a pic of Powell looking over the Cadillac Converj. Feels a little different from that humvee, right? [AutoDeadline]
  • Recall, schmeecall: Some people might call you a schmuck for buying a recalled carseat for your kid. Others think the RECARO Como Convertible Carseat is just fine. Discuss. [Woot]
  • Speaking of questionable parenting skills: Are you tired of that zombie road sign crap yet? (Yeah, everyone is except hardcore Monty Python types.) Office too prudish to blare Christian Bale's tirade on the set of Terminator: The Musical? Well move on to yesterday's hit vid of the day: in-car footage of some sadistic father videotaping his son after a visit to the dentist's nitrous tank. The interweb moves so fast that it's already been remixed with animations. (But then, the Bale clip's been dancified.) The animated clip's below:
