Check NBC's Today Show video coverage (below) of the Obamas cruising in the new GM-supplied Presidential Limo to St. John's church this morning. We knew this new heavy-duty truck based Limo was quite a beast of burden, but the GM Media pic above doesn't reveal the massive scale of this thing. At the end of the clip, Obama and wife exit the limo, and the roofline is nearly as high as Obama's roughly 6'1" frame. He looks positively lilliputian standing in the gaping doorframe.

Commentary by Today Show reporters reveals that this new limo actually has its own air supply, protecting those inside from potential chemical/gas/biohazard attacks on the Commander-In-Chief.

And maybe my diesel-fanaticism is causing auditory hallucinations, but I'm certain the unmistakable clatter of a compression ignition fires up 21 seconds into the clip with attendant turbo whine on acceleration at 25 seconds. Is that a support Suburban with a Duramax, or the Presidential limo itself being propelled by an oil burner?

  1. "Not exactly ..."

I was watching all morning trying to catch a glimpse of this new limo as well and thought the same thing most people seem to have: that the limo the Obamas took to church was this new limo we've heard so much about. However it wasn't until later I realized that it wasn't in fact "the big one."
I caught my first glimpse of the new presidential limo after they left the White House to head to the capitol building. The limo that Bush and Obama were in had several noticeable differences. The wheels and tires were much larger, obviously from a medium-duty truck chassis, and the head lights were definitely from an Escalade (as can be seen in the photo in the beginning of this article.) If you look closely the limos in this video wear DTS front-ends, not the custom one-off of the new limo.
And yes, that means the new limo is even larger in scale than the ones in the video. Whoa ...

  2. "You to can have one of these"

You can have a limo just like this for the low low price of 13 billion dollars.

  3. "No Duramax 'Burbs"

Last I checked civilian Suburbans weren't availible with a Duramax. I imagine the feds can get whatever they want though.
