Mrs. America 2008 Maureen MacDonald
When you hear the word "tasteful", your mind might not immediately drift to images of beauty queens or NASCAR drivers. However, turn your attention to the reigning Mrs. America, Maureen MacDonald, 'cause she's clearly a class act.
Crowned back in September, the enterprising North Carolinian picked up the hem of her evening gown and marched right on down to the Bank of America 500, toting a plain white helmet and one black Sharpie. By the time she left, that Shoei helmet sported 42 signatures, including (in no particular order): Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kevin Harvick, Tony Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton, Kasey Kahne, Denny Hamlin, Brian Vickers, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Greg Biffle, Martin Truex Jr., Juan Pablo Montoya, Mike Wallace, Dave Blaney, Kurt Busch, Jamie McMurray, Sam Hornish Jr., Ryan Newman, Reed Sorenson, Joe Nemechek, Bill Elliott, Bobby Labonte, Michael Waltrip, Casey Mears, Scott Riggs, Bruton Smith, Marcus Smith, Morgan Shepherd, AJ Allmendinger, Mark Martin, Regan Smith, Tony Raines, David Reutimann, Mike Skinner, Chad McCumbee, David Ragan, Elliott Sadler, and Roger Penske. Now the helmet is being auctioned off
, with proceeds to benefit Prevent Child Abuse America. The bidding is at $1,110 right now, with the auction to close on Sunday, around 7:30 p.m. CST. If you've got the scratch, head over and place a bid yourself, and even if you don't, you can stop by to admire the beauty. Of the helmet, of course. We'll refrain from saying anything more or using the acronym that got us in trouble last year.--Richard Read
