There's something about winter testing--it’s almost always dark, snowing or foggy. In this case dark and foggy, but we can still bring you these new photos of the upcoming Mercedes Gullwing caught while driving in the snow, at -26 degrees Celsius.

It’s not clear yet if the new coupe will wear the Mercedes symbol, the AMG badge or both but we can agree that it will have a tough market when it’s ready for sale. Hopefully the financial crisis has calmed down until 2010 when the Gullwing will be introduced to the world.

Expect a twin-turbo V-8 with roughly 600 horsepower to find its place in the aluminum spaceframe, connected to a 7-speed gearbox. The body will be made of carbon fiber and aluminum to keep weight down.

You can see more of the photos from the shoot at the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing page, but first catch this video clip of it on the move.--CarPix

  1. Is it just me or does this thing look like something Batman would own? Maybe change the doors to Batwings, add some machine guns and call it the Mercedes-Benz Batwing! Looks mean as hell also, love that long bonnet, a bit like E-type.
Fingers crossed on this one coming out just great, not that I will ever own one but you can always dream.

  4. There's something wrong with this video, things look narrrower and taller, which may be OK for people, but it makes cars look ludicrous, out of proportion.
PS having a copy of the utterly failed R-class wagon-thing next to the 'gullwing' is a stroke of marketing genius, isn't it. Like having the Edsel next to a Mustang, or the Pontiac Aztec next to the Volt!

  6. So we see the Gullwing caught against a snowy background without "Stealth Mode" on, and I have to wonder if this is what all the other cold war veterans are doing now, looking for the new cars emerging from silos. Either way, neat car, one to micro-graph the plans for
