Audi proudly announced its win of Europe's "Golden Steering Wheel" award for the special SUV class, giving the brand an industry high of 17 awards total. Calling it "one of the most prestigious accolades in the automotive industry," Rupert Stadler, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG, accepted the award in Berlin on Wednesday for Audi AG's new
2009 Q5, which goes on sale November 14 in Europe and March '09 in the United States.
Members of the “Golden Steering Wheel” jury, says Audi, consist of VIPs, technical experts, and racing and rally pros. The winning
2009 Audi Q5 scored especially high with Golden Steering Wheel jurors in the areas of seat comfort, interior space, handling, "variability" (?), and interior and exterior design. Technicians on the jury were quick to praise the vehicle for both its ease of repair and environmental consciousness.
Golden Steering Wheel awards have been given since 1975 to vehicles judged "best new car of the year." Other Audi vehicles to receive the award have been the
A6 in 2004, the
Q7 in '05, and the
A4 last year. More good news for a luxury brand that's sitting on top of the world at the moment.
We'll take our Q5 with the mileage-busting
3.0-liter TDI twin-turbo V-6 featured most recently in Audi's cross-country Mileage Marathon.--
