It probably won't be the Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera shown here, but the 2009 Green Car of the Year will be announced in a few weeks at the Los Angeles auto show.
The award, given by our friend Ron Cogan's Green Car Journal, names the vehicle that most advances the cause of efficiency, while reducing the auto world's environmental footprint. Five finalists will be named between now and the delivery of the award in mid-November.
“Each year we choose the LA Auto Show to make this important announcement because California – and especially the greater Los Angeles region – has historically been the epicenter for both automotive and environmental innovation, and that’s what this award is all about,” said Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of Green Car Journal and editor of GreenCar.com.
Past winners have included the Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid. The new winner must be in production by January 1, 2009, to be eligible for the award. Jurors for the award range from Sierra Club representatives to Jay Leno and Carroll Shelby.
