It's been a long time since Infiniti offered a convertible--set your wayback machine for the M30 that launched with the original Infiniti lineup in 1989.

Today, the upscale Nissan brand is rejoining the fray with its first hardtop convertible. The new 2009 Infiniti G37 Convertible is spun from the coupe we told you about last week. For the new package, Infiniti's gone with a three-piece folding hardtop that gives it coupe structure when needed and top-down motoring when the weather allows. Because that's what convertibles do, according to Wikipedia. The G37 Convertible will get its power from a version of Nissan's lovely 3.7-liter V-6, and it will make more than 320 horsepower. On-sale date is early 2009.

  1. This Infinity looks pretty good. The problem with these hardtop/convertibles is the gap line for the top storage area. Some seem to do a good job of blending, as in this case and some do an awful job like the Chrysler Sebring. I own a Chrysler Crossfire roadster and although its a soft top, the lines are far more attractive than this Infinity and with the top down, there's no comparison. Of course it's all personal taste, but for me I'll take a soft top and not have that invasive gap along the rump of the car. I personally think as two seater luxury roadsters go, the Crossfire has no rivals.

  2. Bill the Crossfire has no rivals, but it has no buyers either...but regardless it is a nice car.
Now onto the Infiniti, WOW. The new gen G coupe is a good looking car, but this convertible is sexy. Any pics of it with the top up????

  3. Woh!
I'll keep my 350Z over a Crossfire anyday! My roadster has a softop. If it's done right (which it is) the lines of the car are beautiful. I drove a Crossfire Roadster, no comparison!! The Infinity G37 is a Z with a softer suspension and a little more room. The handling is all different. I suspect the G37 convertible to be more like a Volvo C70 convertible. Again no comparison to a Z!
