Saab Fashions 9-X BioHybrid, Eco-Friendly Clothing

March 18, 2008

Think Project Runway meets the X-Games, and you have the basics for Saab's new line of clothing, conveniently introduced this week along with Saab's 9-X BioHybrid concept at the New York auto show.

The Pure BioPower Eco Clothing Collection clothing line, Saab says, combines "form and function with responsible performance." What, no rouching? It's been designed in a partnership with a Swedish company, Reflective Circle (sample photo here, sample sale...we're not sure). The clothes are made from 100 percent ecologically grown organic cotton, and all the dyeing, printing and washing is done in the most green way possible, Saab says. Buttons are made out of Coroso nuts. The whole line will be up for sale in May at Saab's Web boutique.

Along with the clothing lineup, Saab USA is also kicking in $40,000 for the Earth Pledge FutureFashion Initiative, which is helping coutoure go more green.

As for the BioHybrid concept? Well, you saw it in our Geneva show coverage, but tonight it will get its North American debut--and we'll be able to see more of the clothes. Stay with us this week as we bring you more on the Saab 9-X BioHybrid, the BioPower clothing line, and more on how long it takes to cab crosstown when there's no parade of green running up Fifth Avenue like yesterday.
