Big Oops: New Kia Soul Hits the 'Net

March 14, 2008

How do you say "oh, crap" in Korean? We're listening hard for it, now that clean shots of the production-ready Soul have hit the Web (thanks to kia-world.net and Autoblog).

The Soul, destined either for the afterlife or the New York auto show, will show up next week looking remarkably like the Soul concepts that we brought you from the Geneva motor show two weeks ago. There's no Soul Diva in the production lineup, but it is New York and we're sure Tyra Banks will be somewhere within a 20-block radius since cameras will be rolling.

The Soul, we suspect, is based on Kia's Spectra running gear, but wears the tall-wagon body of a Scion xB. We actually like the Kia's shape a little better--it's more goofy and friendly than the seriously thick piece the xB has become. The interior no doubt will have a range of custom trim options, and maybe someone will strap a blower to the Soul's mid-size four-cylinder engine and make things interesting.

Stay tuned for more pics of the Soul from New York, and for other breaking news from the show.
