Nissan Maxima Drops its Shroud, and New York's A Month Away

Follow Marty

We’ve just caught the 2009 Maxima, a month ahead of its New York Auto Show introduction.

The seventh-generation Maxima will arrive next fall, with a Renault-Nissan diesel powerplant to follow a couple of years later – likely in time for the 2011 model year.

In addition to the diesel motor, a Toyota-developed hybrid system may also be available – and we’re expecting this as early as the 2010 model year!

Watch for the uncloaked version to debut next month in New York.--Chris Doane for Brenda Priddy & Company

  1. Nissan will bring their own hybrid system in 2010 and nothing from toyota.A matter of fact bosch and nissan are have disscussion on tie up hybrid technology, so get it correct. And a matter of fact if this come true for nissan hybrid may come much earlier than 2010.

    Bad stuff?

  2. The car's shoulder design and rims really give the illusion of the GTR. Perhaps what we're looking at here isn't the vspec performance Maxima?

  3. Who cares about an overpriced Altima front wheel drive twin? Nissan could just as easily bring over the G35 and badge it as a Maxima. It seems that Nissan wants you to pay the maximum for 15 less horsepower in a very similar size package to its own nameplate's alternative. Note on performance: Honda learned you can only put so much power to the ground with front wheel drive and went to its SH-AWD.

  4. Poor picture to judge any styling cues - from the shape it looks, well, like about 10 other cars. Styling is really stuck in a groove isn't it?

  5. I am expecting a lot from the 09 Maxima ( because I want one and have been waiting for the new body style forever ) these pics aren't a far stretch from the current Maxima or Altima. I think Nissan is trying to pull the wool over our eyes because this looks exactly like the Nissan Teana, even with the camoflauge. There are pics of the Teana in the same black camoflauge on the web from earlier last year and it looks the same as this "supposed" 09 Maxima with the exception of the rims. I am really hoping this is the Teana being used as some type of diversion because I am not impressed Nissan! Excite us like you did years ago. I want to be totally suprised when the New Maxima is reveiled March 19th at the New York Auto Show. Can't wait...

  6. I'am not impressed it looks the same as the 2008 maxima I thought that it will be different like there we're saying I was going to change my 2007 maxima for the 2009 maxima but I think not, it looks the same.

  8. LOOKS JUST LIKE THE 08 MODEL. AS A OWNER OF THREE GENERATION OF MAXIMAS I AM ANXIOUS TO SEE THE REAL 09 MODEL. I THINK THE 09 MODEL WILL MAKE OR BREAK THE NAME MAXIMA BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN EXTREMELY OVERSHADOWED BY ITS YOUNGER KIN THE ALTIMA. HOPE IT LOOKS GOOD BECAUSE I WANT TO BUY ONE.

  9. I thought that the new Maxima was gonna knock the socks off these other cars, but it look like the only thing ya'll change was the square shape in the front looking like charger. I really hope it's change because I want one

  10. PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! Don't let this be the Maxima. Honestly, i can see the changes and it looks good but this is not enough! From reading other sites about the Maxima i just knew this 09 was going to be a killer, I M STILL LIVING!, in other words it is not doing it. I own a 00 Maxima and love it. When the 04s came out I was impressed but noe enough to buy one then not lets get started on the simple changes of 07-08. I guess I will have to buy a 09 anyway because it time for a new car. Or i might just wait on the pontiac G8. If thats the body style I might as well buy some American muscle

  11. It's my understanding that they are just "enhancing" the Maxima for the '09 version...285hp, CVT transmission, driver styled cockpit and a few subtle changes, but no overhaul as expected and if the pic above is accurate, that would hold true to what I have heard because the pic above doesn't fit the hype I initially heard (mercedes styled all new Maxima).

  12. I really want this 09 Maxima to SHOCK the market. I have own 3 generation of the Maxima and if this 09 does not excite like the GT-R then I will be buying the Mercedes C350. Heck if Mercedes and make the jump with the new C-Class then Nissian can do the same with the Maxima.

  13. I think this is not the new maxima at all base on all the feed back from Nissan, and also selling Nissan that picture and what nissan reps have said in tranning that can not be the 2009 Nissan Maxima.
