Scion Releases xB 5.0; Steve Jobs Fails to Take Credit

January 16, 2008

While we finish mopping up after the press days at the 2008 Detroit auto show (lots of shredded paper, spilled lattes at the Acura stand and sweaty lanyards, ew), here’s the info on the Scion special-edition xB that was quietly let out for the Cobo crowds.

Scion says the xB Release Series 5.0 was inspired by the concept xB from last year’s Chicago auto show. On that tip, the new Release sports Gold Rush Mica paint, along with a moonroof, a KenStyle body kit, and special wheel covers all as standard gear. The body-color spoiler will be an option.

The 5.0’s cabin wears interior trim in the same special paint color, and coordinating seat fabric. New badges on the inside tell the world that you’re one of 2500 buyers lucky enough to snag one of the 5.0s (not to be confused with the Mustang 5.0).

Get ready to spend $15,650 for the manual-transmission version plus another $620 in handling. The automatic will add another $950 to the tab, while that spoiler runs $320.

See more pictures at the 2008 Scion xB page we’ve set up, and stay tuned for TheCarConnection’s coverage of the Chicago auto show coming up in four short weeks.
