Nissan has spiced up its European subcompact, the Micra, in time for theFrankfurt auto show next week. But since teensy city cars tend to pale against the likes of Jaguar XFs and Maserati GTs, Nissan’s slathering the Micra with special paint to come up with the Micra Colour + Concept, a two-toner set for a public unveiling next week at the Frankfurt Messe.

Visually, the Micra Colour + Concept flashes back to the days of bi-colored cars. Its Liquid Metal gold paint highlights its fender lines, while the rest of the car is coated in pearlescent white. Nissan says the gold finish has depth that makes it appear to be liquid to the touch.

Inside, the special Micra gets a contrasting interior with white leather trimmed in accent-color stitching. The upper interior color is “pale,” Nissan says, while the lower section is a darker, acid yellow.

The Micra lineup itself gets a more sophisticated look for the new model year, Nissan adds. New exterior trim and blacked-out B-pillars make it look more upscale, while inside, new materials and colors update its look for the next few years on the market.

Bluetooth, an auxiliary jack, and a speed-limit warning chime are among the other changes.

Stay tuned as reports from the Frankfurt auto show next week — with a concept preview from Mercedes, drives of the MINI Clubman and Volkswagen Tiguan, and news and high-res photos from all the show halls.
