The next generation of Ford’s massively popular European B-segment hatchback, the Fiesta, will come to theUSA. The company hinted at the move during its Geneva press conference and company sources privately confirmed it minutes later. Slotting into the lineup below the current Focus, it will be the smallest car Ford has ever officially sold in America.
During the presentation to journalists, Ford of Europe’s president and CEO John Fleming detailed how new global CEO Alan Mulally had devised a plan to bring together product development teams from around the world. They will have a single strategy on creating new models to take the company forward.
Speaking of the B-segment car, Fleming explained how a team from Ford of Europe would lead colleagues from Asia and America to create one new vehicle. However, it won’t be identical in every market, but will be tailored to meet the separate needs of each. The rollout of this new B-car will start in 2008 and last for two years.
TheCarConnection later confirmed one place it will be sold is North America.
