Toyota’s Scion division
didn’t have any all-new products to show off at the Detroit auto show, but
between the DJs spinning ‘round the show clock and the free T-shirts being
pressed behind them, the upstart division found plenty of gawkers crowding its
booth.
And no
wonder – the Scion show stand looked more like a Matchbox storage case than the
typical Cobo crate. Or maybe it was a spin on Hollywood Squares without Paul
Lynde in the center square?
Whatever
the case, one star was apparent in the Scion booth – the new tC Release 3.0.
Hitting showrooms in mid-February, the tC R.S. 3.0 gets front and rear KenStyle
body add-ons, a wider honeycombed grille and LED taillights. Inside, Alcantara
seats and a RAZO shift knob send the tC out of
Detroit in
style.
Some 2500 copies of the tC 3.0 will
be retailed, with a base price starting at $18,980 for manual-tranny models.
Automatics run $600 more.
Scion says it’s ready to replace the
xA and xB compacts soon, but no timing, sketches or photos have been
released.
